Our next 1-Day Comprehensive Childbirth Education Class takes place from 9am-5pm on May 24th at the Body in Balance Center in Alexandria, Virginia. In this full-day class you will learn all about the physiology of pregnancy and birth, comfort measures, breastfeeding, newborn care, and how to diminish fears surrounding pregnancy, birth, and early parenting! This class is taught by childbirth educator, birth & postpartum doula, Sara P.! This is a great class for any kind of birth- medicated, unmedicated, induction, home, birth center, hospital.
We will talk all about the physiology and anatomy of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We will also discuss nutrition and fitness during pregnancy and postpartum, and how to understand your “due date.” We will also discuss the cultural history of birth and how it has been viewed throughout history.
We will also discuss proper body positioning to help with optimal fetal positioning during pregnancy, the progression and signs of labor, variations of normal birth such as breech, and positions to help with comfort and progression during labor.
We will learn all about the pain and sensations of birth, including how our minds interpret those sensations, natural comfort measures to use during birth, such as hydrotherapy, massage, positioning, breathing patterns, and how to involve your partner in birth for a more positive experience.
Because pregnancy doesn’t always go as planned, we will discuss how to make informed decisions when you are met with challenges or would like to make changes in your birth plan. We’ll go over how to make a birth plan and how to communicate with your birth team. Finally, we will talk about what to expect postpartum, breastfeeding, and basic newborn care.
