The Ins & Outs of Birthing at Frederick Memorial Hospital

Frederick Memorial Hospital is a busy hospital, serving approximately 2400 birthing families each year. The hospital has earned many accolades, accreditations, and recognitions for the care and research taking place at the hospital.  The Birth Place is staffed with highly trained doctors, nurses, and certified nurse midwives. The hospital is very welcoming to doulas.

Should you need it, a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is located in the hospital. The Billy Miller NICU is staffed with Johns Hopkins Neonatologists, Nurses, and other health care professionals and cares for babies as young as 23 weeks. They collaborate with John’s Hopkins and Children’s National Medical Center should your baby need additional medical care.

Frederick Memorial Hospital has many classes for new and expectant parents.  There is even a prenatal clinic located in the hospital ensuring that all families have access to prenatal care. Family Focus provides hospital tours, childbirth and infant education classes, sibling classes, and breastfeeding support.

Frederick Memorial Hospital is located at 400 W 7th St, Frederick, MD 21701. Their main number is (240) 566-3300.

The Birthplace is located on the 1st floor of the hospital.  Enter through the Orange #4 – Hospital Entrance. Check in at the Information Desk in the Orange Entrance #4 lobby.

Parking: There are several options for parking. Free valet parking at the entrance; Surface Parking in Orange Lot #4; Garage Parking, Visitor Entrance.

If you are in labor after hours enter through the Emergency Room 

Visiting hours: 24/7, with a maximum of 4 people 

Food

The Hospital Cafeteria is located in the lower level of the hospital. Take the hospital elevators to the Lower Level (B). 

Providing breakfast, lunch and dinner for visitors of the hospital, the cafeteria is open 6:30 am to 8:00 pm every day.

  • Breakfast is from 6:30am-10:30am.
  • Lunch Stations are open from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (including the hot entree line, the demo of the day, the deli, and the Italian bar).
  • Dinner, which includes a hot entree line, is served from 4:00 p.m – 6:30 p.m.
  • Grill is open from 11:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m.
  • Soup and salad bar is open every day from 11:00 a.m – 8:00 p.m.

Visitors coming to the cafeteria between the hours of 9:00 pm and 6:30 am must have a visitor ID badge provided to them by the security officer

The Coffee Bean is located next to the hospital elevators on the first floor. It serves Lattes, Mochas, Cappuccino, Frozen Blenders and more. Located right by the main elevators, The Coffee Bean is open Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Saturday& Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
