Meet Miranda! Balanced Birth Support Metro DC Birth Doula

Its been a fair amount of time since I have had an opportunity to visit with the awesome Balanced Birth Support community.  I'm super excited to share my interview with Miranda Franck, one of our birth doulas. She supports hospital births, home births, and birth center births all over the DC area.  She is smart, dedicated, and a fellow NICU mom.  Her passion for supporting birthing families is obvious, and she will tirelessly support you, no matter what. Plus, I could use a few pointers from her on how to relax! Read on to learn more about Miranda!

Where were you born?

Atlanta, Ga!

How long have you lived in the DMV?

One year this past August!

Tell me about the moment you wanted to be a doula.

The moment I knew I wanted to be a doula, was when I realized how delicate, yet magical, the journey bringing a baby earthside was and that it needed all of the love and support it could get.

Are you a birth or postpartum doula? Or both? Why?

Birth doula! Although, I hope to soon begin working towards postpartum work as well. I am in love with supporting families and seeing them bloom in empowerment.

What is your favorite book/author/movie/band? Why?

My favorite book is any written by Nicholas Sparks. Cheesy movies are ok... but cheesy, romantic books are LIFE.

What are some organizations that are near and dear to you? Do you do any volunteer or charity work?

I love being active in the community of bringing awareness to Intestinal Malrotation, a condition my son was born with. As well as being active in the military spouse community, this year I hope to begin regularly volunteering with meals on wheels in remembrance of my late grandfather.

Do you have any favorite quotes or poems?

“And here you are, living. Despite it all.”- Rupi Kaur

Do you have any useless talents?

I can hear a song probably 2 times and remember the song lyrics for the rest of my life. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Makes for fun road trips, though.. 😉

What do you like to do in a your free time? Do you have any hobbies?

In my free time I love to just curl up and get lost in a book with one of my kitties purring on my lap. Yes, hobbies! I love exploring with my toddler, getting outdoors and adventuring any chance we get.

If you could have an all-expenses paid trip to see any famous world monument, which monument would you choose?

The pyramids of Giza! Fascinating!!

What would you like your doula clients to know about you?

That no matter how you choose to birth, how vulnerable you get, you will ALWAYS have support within me.

What do you hope to bring to a birth?

Love, light, & peace. I hope that my energy in attendance at your birth, soothes your soul when it needs it and that it helps you roar when you need a lift up.

What do you like best about being a doula?

That I regularly see fellow human beings truly marveling at the immense love and joy that their love has created, & the look of pride on their faces!

What do you wish that more people knew about birth or pregnancy?

That when you truly tune in to the miracle that is unraveling within you, around you, there is nothing to fear. You got this. 💓

Where do you draw your inspiration?

From Mother Earth, & her beautiful inhabitants.

Who do you look up to or idolize?

I have so many wonderful people I look up to and admire it would be hard to name! To make it easy, I look up to the lovers of life. The people who create happiness, and love and light happy energy all around them.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Teleportation! For sure.
