Should you need it, an award winning level III-B Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is located in the hospital. In addition to state of the art technology, highly trained doctors and nurses, the NICU also offers social services and spiritual care, and encourages families to be as involved as possible in their newborns care. They also emphasize the importance of breastmilk for your baby in the NICU.

Shady Grove received a “baby friendly” designation from the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund for its commitment to support breastfeeding families and by providing access to lactation consultants and support groups.

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is located at 9901 Medical Center Drive, Rockville, MD 20850. Their main number is 240-826-6000.

Parking: The hospital recommends that if you are in labor to park in Lot D. There is a small fee for parking and can  be paid upon exit or at the hospital entrance. There are also metered spaces along Medical Center Drive. 

If you are in labor: enter the hospital through the main entrance and take the Evergreen elevators to the third floor. From 10pm-5am enter through the emergency room and a staff member will assist you in getting to  labor and delivery. 

Visiting hours: 12pm-8pm; Quiet time: 1pm-3pm. 

Food

Shady Grove has many different dining options throughout the hospital.

The Woodlands Cafe is located on the first floor just behind the main lobby. They serve snacks, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Vending Machines: There are several vending machines throughout the hospital, including two on the third floor in The Evergreen Lobby and the Birth Center Waiting Room. 

Jazzmans Cafe & Bakery is located in the emergency department lobby on the 2nd floor.  They serve coffees, pastries, and other snacks

Other Information

Placenta Removal– Your placenta can be taken home on the day of delivery but you will need to sign a waiver. Be sure to tell your care provider and nurses that you will be bringing your placenta home.

Water Birth: Labor Only, birthing in the tub is not permitted.

Level III NICU

State of the Art safety and security measures including secure doors, matching infant/mother bracelets, and an electronic infant monitoring system which will trigger a lockdown if your infant is in an unauthorized location.

Typical Discharge– Vaginal delivery 2 nights; Cesarean– 3-4 nights. 

Maternal Newborn Home Care providing additional monitoring services for both mother and baby after discharge from the hospital.
