Balanced Birth Support + Carrot Fertility
Can I use Carrot Fertility benefits for a Balanced Birth Support doula?
Potentially, yes! Balanced Birth Support has doulas who meet Carrot's provider eligibility requirements and work with families using Carrot benefits for birth and postpartum support. However, Carrot evaluates individual doulas, rather than automatically approving every doula simply because they work with an eligible agency. If you're planning to use Carrot benefits, please let us know during your consultation so we can help match you with an appropriate doula.
Are all BBS doulas Carrot eligible?
Not necessarily. Carrot evaluates each doula individually based on its current eligibility requirements. Because we have a large team, Carrot status can vary by doula. If you're using Carrot benefits, tell us before selecting your doula. We can help you determine which members of our team currently meet the applicable Carrot requirements.
What qualifications does Carrot require for doulas?
Carrot evaluates each doula individually. Current eligibility pathways may include qualifying doula certification or training/experience requirements, as well as additional professional requirements such as current CPR/BLS credentials, professional liability insurance, references and other documentation. Carrot's requirements and accepted credentials can change, so final eligibility is always determined by Carrot.
I found one BBS doula in Carrot's directory but can't find another. Does that mean they aren't eligible?
Not necessarily. Carrot's process for adding and verifying doulas has changed over time. A doula not appearing when you search does not necessarily mean they cannot become eligible to provide reimbursable services. Under Carrot's current process, a member may need to request the specific doula they would like to work with through their Carrot account. Carrot can then contact the doula to complete its application or verification process. If you're having trouble locating your BBS doula, contact us before assuming they are not eligible.
How do I request my BBS doula through Carrot?
If the doula you want to work with isn't appearing in your Carrot account, Carrot's current process may require you to request that specific provider. Generally: Log into your Carrot account. Navigate to your doula benefit/provider area.
Enter the doula's name and email address when requesting your provider.
Carrot will contact the doula regarding any application or documentation it requires.
The doula completes Carrot's provider eligibility process. Please reach out to BBS if you need the correct information for your doula before submitting your request.
Can I use Carrot for both birth and postpartum doula support?
Depending on your employer's particular Carrot benefit, you may have coverage for birth doula services, postpartum doula services, or both. Coverage amounts, eligible services and reimbursement limits vary by employer.
Can I use my Carrot Card to pay BBS directly for doula services?
Carrot's current terms state that the Carrot Card may not be used to pay for birth or postpartum doula care. That means doula services may need to go through Carrot's reimbursement process rather than being charged directly to the Carrot Card. Because benefits vary by employer and Carrot's policies can change, confirm your payment and reimbursement process directly with Carrot before making payment.
Does BBS guarantee that Carrot will reimburse me?
No. While we can provide appropriate documentation for services and help make the process as straightforward as possible, Balanced Birth Support cannot guarantee reimbursement. Carrot makes the final determination regarding provider eligibility, eligible services, reimbursement amounts and approval of reimbursement requests. Your specific benefits are also determined by the plan offered through your employer. We strongly recommend confirming your benefits with Carrot before purchasing services.
Will BBS communicate directly with Carrot about my reimbursement?
Families are responsible for communicating with Carrot regarding their individual benefits and reimbursement requests. BBS can provide the documentation associated with the doula services you purchase, but we do not manage your Carrot account or make reimbursement determinations on Carrot's behalf. If Carrot requests specific provider documentation from your doula as part of its eligibility process, we will work with our doula to complete the appropriate provider-side requirements.
What happens if I want to work with two different BBS doulas?
Let us know! This is especially common with postpartum support when families need multiple daytime or overnight doulas to cover a larger schedule. Because Carrot evaluates doulas individually, each doula providing Carrot-reimbursable services must independently meet Carrot's eligibility requirements. We'll take your Carrot benefits into consideration when helping you build your team.
What if my preferred doula isn't currently approved?
Talk to us before choosing someone else. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to request that doula through your Carrot account so Carrot can initiate its current provider application process. We'll help you determine the best next step based on the doula you've selected.
