Meet Emma Birth Doula Northern Virginia | DC

I trained as a Birth Doula in January of 2022, after becoming increasingly interested in the prenatal and perinatal processes I was observing in friends and family, who had encountered difficult births. I wanted to be a guide spiritually and emotionally for them, but had no idea how to it until I started researching the different types of birth assistants I could be. Up until that point I was a doll-maker, who had dabbled in herbalism, now I provide comfort in both of those areas for any birthing person who desires a holistic approach to their labor. My spiritual perspective provides a fluid, loving, and empathic approach towards the birthing process, and I am willing to meet anyone's expectations for their birth plan, because all births are important. I am now in the process of learning American Sign Language, and Mudras hand symbology for more intuitive birth practice.
In my personal life, I am still a dollmaker and I make birthing dolls that can help my clients feel safe during their birth. I love being crafty and much of my creative life overlaps with my birthing life, as both are wonderfully creative. I also love nature and I regularly work on my mother's farm, taking care of the plants and chickens. In that vein, I am also an herbalist and I am continuing to learn more about herbal remedies and aromatherapy for birthing people.
