Meet Emma McCulloch-Bauer Birth Doula

As a born-and-bred Raleigh native, it is an honor and a delight to be able to serve the folks of my community that I love so dearly!

Ever since I was young, I’ve had a deep interest in pregnancy and women’s health. When I graduated highschool, I was already considering pursuing a career as a birth doula, but decided at the time to pursue my career in classical music which I studied since I was seven years old. I completed my bachelor’s degree in flute performance and had a successful career teaching music, competing in national competitions, and performing locally and internationally. However, I felt a lack of fulfillment in my career. While I enjoyed working in the classical music field, I deeply desired to make a genuine, lasting difference in people’s lives, and felt an increasing sense of anxiety that I would be unable to have a long-term career in the Triangle area.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, I lost most of my professional opportunities by having to work remotely. It was that drastic life change that made me decide it was time to pursue my real passion. In April 2021, I completed my birth doula certification through Heart Soul Birth Pros: a DONA recognized organization.

My goal as a doula is to support individuals of all different backgrounds with well-rounded care, with an emphasis on providing education and advocacy. I strive for all clients to feel empowered to make their own educated decisions regarding their birth experience. Aside from my professional career, I volunteer part-time with Birth Partners at UNC Chapel Hill, working as a doula with birthing parents who were unable to hire a doula due to financial circumstance, or for those who were not aware of the option until labor.

In my personal life, I live with my husband Nick, my dog Uncle Iroh, and my two cats, Ringo and Luna. I enjoy traveling, going to the gym, sketching, digital art, and generally indulging my creative side!
