As your doula, I will help you take control of your birth experience by providing you with the space, support, and information you need to make your birth the best it can be.
I grew up in the Boston area and went to college in Ithaca, New York. While I was studying media and art in my classes, it was in Ithaca that I became interested in yoga and holistic approaches to health and wellbeing. After graduating college, I moved to New Orleans, where I lived for three years before moving to New York in February, 2018.
My interest in women’s reproductive health is longstanding. After experiencing personal dissatisfaction with my experience as a woman in the medical system, I began doing research on different approaches to healthcare. I took classes on herbs for women’s health, learned about body literacy and fertility awareness, and met a few inspiring doulas along the way. I also completed a yoga teacher training deepening my interest in anatomy, physiology, and body-mind practices. At the same time maternity care was becoming a hot topic in the news and I felt deeply connected to the stories I was hearing. Because I was working for a public radio station in New Orleans, I was listening to these stories day in and day out, and felt called to do something. I wanted to educate and advocate for women but I wasn’t sure exactly what my role could be.
I moved to New York City in February, 2018 and quickly realized that my passion for women’s health could become my career. I continued to do research and decided to complete a doula training with Doula Trainings International. I completed my training in June, 2018 and am looking forward to serving families here in NYC.
