AJ Washington
“Birth is a profound transformation—one that deserves knowledgeable care, compassionate support, and a strong community.”
As a birth and postpartum doula, I provide comprehensive support throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the fourth trimester. I am especially passionate about postpartum care, a period when families are often expected to manage tremendous physical, emotional, and practical changes without enough support.
With more than a decade of experience in healthcare, I have worked closely with physicians, patients, and families. These experiences strengthened one of the most important skills I bring to doula care: the ability to listen—not only to what is being said, but also to the concerns and needs that may be difficult to express.
My specialized training in labor support, postpartum care, lactation assistance, and newborn care allows me to provide practical, evidence-based guidance tailored to each family. I understand that no two pregnancies, births, babies, or postpartum experiences are the same, which is why I approach every client without assumptions or judgment.
During pregnancy and labor, I provide emotional reassurance, physical comfort techniques, evidence-based education, and support with self-advocacy. I help families explore their options, prepare questions, communicate their preferences, and remain connected to their values—even when circumstances change.
My care continues after the baby arrives. As a postpartum doula, I support recovery, emotional well-being, infant feeding, newborn care, rest, and the transition into new family routines. I provide a calm, attentive presence while helping parents understand their baby’s cues and build confidence in their own abilities.
Through years of hands-on experience, I have learned that postpartum care is just as important as birth preparation. Healing parents, developing relationships, and learning to care for a newborn all deserve time, attention, and support. My goal is to ensure that families feel seen, heard, cared for, and empowered throughout this vulnerable transition.
I am committed to providing inclusive and affirming care and especially value the opportunity to support LGBTQIA+ parents and families. Every family deserves care that respects its identity, structure, values, and individual path to parenthood.
