Demi Lucus

Demi Lucas is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional (PMH-C), and DONA-trained postpartum doula. She also served as an accredited La Leche League Leader for five years.

With more than a decade of professional, volunteer, educational, and clinical experience, Demi has built her career around supporting the health and well-being of mothers, babies, and growing families.

Demi’s passion for maternal and infant health began when she was expecting her oldest daughter. As a young mother, she knew she wanted to give her baby the best possible start but quickly realized how much she still had to learn about newborn care and breastfeeding.

When Demi experienced breastfeeding challenges and bias within the medical system, she recognized the need for compassionate, respectful, and nonjudgmental support. Her personal experience inspired her to become a breastfeeding peer-support counselor. From there, she continued her education and served families as a birth and postpartum doula, La Leche League Leader, student lactation consultant, and ultimately an IBCLC.

Demi understands that families are often surrounded by an overwhelming amount of advice from the moment a pregnancy is announced. Recommendations can be confusing, conflicting, and difficult to navigate—especially during the vulnerable early days of parenthood.

As a lactation consultant and postpartum doula, Demi centers each family’s individual goals. She provides evidence-based education and professional guidance without judgment, meeting families where they are and helping them create a realistic path toward where they want to be.

Demi believes parents are the experts on their own babies. Her role is to help families understand their options, work through challenges, and build the knowledge and confidence they need to make informed decisions. Her additional certification in perinatal mental health allows her to bring greater awareness and sensitivity to the emotional well-being of parents throughout pregnancy and postpartum.

While pursuing her IBCLC credential, Demi completed her clinical internship throughout the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia communities under the mentorship of experienced local IBCLCs. She also developed a doula practice specializing in birth and postpartum support.

Demi is a member of the United States Breastfeeding Committee and the United States Lactation Consultant Association. Originally from Southern Virginia, she has lived in many locations through her family’s military service and now calls Loudoun County home.

Demi’s goal is to ensure families feel heard, respected, informed, and empowered as they navigate infant feeding, postpartum recovery, and early parenthood.
