Emily Watts
Hi I'm Emily, and I am a certified birth and postpartum doula and breastfeeding counselor serving families throughout Northern Virginia. I am honored to walk alongside families through pregnancy, birth, and the fourth trimester, helping them feel informed, supported, and confident as they prepare for and adjust to life with a new baby.
My work with growing families began more than eight years ago as a prenatal and postpartum massage therapist. Through that experience, I developed a deep understanding of the physical and emotional changes that accompany pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum recovery, and early parenthood. Today, I combine that knowledge with a holistic, evidence-based approach to birth and postpartum doula care.
In addition to my doula and massage-therapy background, I am a certified breastfeeding counselor and perinatal nutritionist. This well-rounded training allows me to support families with pregnancy wellness, labor comfort measures, postpartum nourishment, infant feeding, newborn care, and recovery after birth.
I believe every family deserves a positive and empowering birth experience—whether they choose a home birth, birth-center birth, or hospital birth, and whether their birth includes unmedicated labor, pain medication, an epidural, an induction, or a cesarean. My role is not to define what a “good birth” should look like. It is to listen, provide reliable information, honor each family’s preferences, and offer steady support as circumstances and decisions unfold.
My care continues after the baby arrives. As a postpartum doula, I provide compassionate, nonjudgmental support as families recover from birth, learn their baby’s cues, and settle into new routines. I assist with newborn care, feeding support, soothing techniques, postpartum recovery, emotional reassurance, light household tasks related to the baby, and opportunities for parents to rest. My goal is to reduce overwhelm while helping parents build confidence in their own instincts and abilities.
Whether I am providing daytime or overnight postpartum support, I tailor my care to the family’s individual needs. Some parents need hands-on newborn assistance and restorative sleep, while others need education, reassurance, practical help, or simply a calm presence. I meet each family where they are and help create a nurturing environment in which both the baby and parents can thrive.
I also bring personal insight from the births of my three extraordinary children. My experiences include a hospital birth, a birth-center birth, and a home birth, giving me a unique appreciation for the benefits, challenges, and emotions associated with different birth settings. I understand firsthand that birth and postpartum are profound, life-changing experiences, and I am committed to helping each family navigate them in a way that feels safe, respected, and supported.
I am a lifelong Northern Virginia resident and currently live with my husband, our three children, and our rescue dog, Peaches. Outside of birth work, I enjoy spending time with family, traveling, reading, thrifting, antiquing, researching family genealogy, and cheering on the Washington Nationals. I also enjoy volunteering my massage-therapy skills to support teachers and veterans.
From pregnancy and birth through postpartum recovery and life with a newborn, I would be honored to provide the knowledgeable, compassionate support your family deserves.
