Ty Litchman

Ty Litchman

Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, CBE, Yoga Instructor

Starting in middle school, whenever I had a day off school I would be home watching either Lord of The Rings or "A Baby Story". From a very early age I had a strong interest in science and medicine.  Coming from a big family with lots of older cousins who had young babies, I became the defacto babysitter at large family gatherings.

With babysitting my way through college and absolutely loving everything I learned along the way, after college I became a nanny. Over 5 years learning to care for newborns through teenagers, I also supported families with kids on the autism spectrum, single parents, LGBTQ+ families, polyamorous/non-monogamous family structures, international families, multigenerational families, and countless others, and they have all left a loving impression on my heart.

After college I became a dedicated yoga practitioner, eventually pursuing and completing the 200hr Yoga Teacher training. It was during the Prenatal Yoga section of the training that they first learned what a doula is!

My teacher became a mentor and I realized there was a job that combined everything I love - science through being medically adjacent in hospital birth and understanding the anatomy and physiology and pregnancy and labor, as well as the interpersonal relationships and supporting families through these big exciting changes in their life.

I started out as a Postpartum Doula in 2015, in 2016 I became a Birth Doula, Placenta Encapsulator, and Childbirth Educator. I also taught various types of studio yoga classes from 2015-2020. I don't teach in studio classes of my own anymore but still very much bring important aspects of yoga to birth and postpartum support.

After taking some time off after having my first child in 2020, the beginning of a pandemic, coming back to supporting clients through the same things was especially powerful. My second baby was born in 2022, and the two births could not have been more different - my first being a planned cesarean for a breech baby, the second an unmedicated VBAC. All instilling how special this work is, even after having been a doula for 5 and 7 years respectively before having my own children, things still surprise me, it is always incredible! Additionally, as a queer non-binary parent myself, it is also especially important to me to bring not just understanding, but truly affirming care and support to the community.

Growing up with a single mom myself, the notion of taking a village to raise a child was very really. One of my biggest passions in this work is being able to be a part of my clients' village. There is no greater honor than being invited into such an intimate space and time in a family's life as the birth and postpartum experience.
