Meet Allie! Birth and Postpartum Doula Arlington

Birth and postpartum doula arlington

Im Allie, a certified birth and postpartum doula through the Madriella Doula Network. I aim to be someone you can relax around, while paying close attention to what matters to you and your family. I bring a calm, caring, intuitive, and non-judgmental presence, and offer support in both English and Spanish.

About ten years ago, a close friend called me from her labor and delivery room and, between breaths, asked if I could come watch a movie with her at the hospital. I knew right away what she really meant: “I need you to be here with me.” So I got in my car, found a long-term parking spot, and hurried up to her room. She was already deep into labor, moving her hips on a birth ball, focused and determined to have an unmedicated birth. I didn’t have any training then. I was just there as her friend, but it was clear my job was to stay with her, support her, and help her feel safe doing what she had prepared for. She had done so much work to get ready for that moment, both mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, and I knew my role was to protect that space for her. That’s what I did. Six hours later, she welcomed her baby exactly the way she had hoped to.

That experience changed me. It showed me how much it matters to have someone beside you during birth who is steady, present, and truly on your side. It planted the seed for what eventually became my calling: to be that person for other families, too.

Before becoming a doula, I spent many years designing learning experiences for young children and supporting their social and emotional development. That background still shapes how I show up with families. I bring patience, curiosity, and respect for each person’s pace, along with a deep understanding that transitions rarely happen in a straight line.

I also spent part of my life as a touring musician, which might sound unrelated, but it taught me something that feels deeply connected to birth and early parenting: how to follow rhythm, how to listen closely, how to know when to step in and when to give space. Birth has its own timing, its own flow, and its own way of moving people through something big, and I’ve learned to trust that.

As your doula, I bring all of this with me into my work and I feel genuinely honored to be invited into such an intimate and sacred part of your family’s life.

I believe birth is a moment that lives in people long after its over, and that how we are cared for during that time becomes part of how we remember ourselves, our babies, and our families. As a doula, Ive learned how much it matters to have someone beside you who sees you, stays with you, and is on your side no matter what you decide.
