I love to empower the families I work with by providing evidence based data for them to make informed decisions.
Perinatal equity and reproductive justice are at the center of my doula work. I strive to be an advocate for the families I work with and provide a safe space for families to transition in to parenthood. I have newly completed my full spectrum doula training and am excited to provide services to DMV families that are filled with empathy, listening, hands-on support and collaboration to create the life they envision as parents.
I was introduced to birthwork at a very young age with the first in-person birth I attended being my sister’s. Being a doula was something I thought about pursuing but never had the chance to. That all changed once I decided to have a baby of my own. In my pregnancy and postpartum period I was met with many physical and emotional obstacles. It is not an exaggeration when I say my doula (who is now my mentor) saved my life many times over in the process. Through my healing journey, I listened to the stories of many different birthing people who had similar and also different difficulties in pregnancy than I did. Hearing these stories and empathizing with them I realized that I wanted to help families who were struggling with their transition in to parenthood. While I do love attending births, I found a special place in helping families who are struggling in the postpartum period. Specifically, families that are experiencing or are high risk for postpartum depression & anxiety. Every birthing person deserves a postpartum experience where they feel compassion, are cared for and empowered in the choices they make for themselves and their family these are the things I make a priority with families in my care.
Continuing education within the field is something I take pride in and I have had the chance to participate in the following trainings to enhance my doula support:
● Certified size inclusive birthworker - equipped with knowledge, techniques and a network of information to help birthing people of size have an inclusive and empowering birth and/or postpartum experience.
● Babywearing for birthworkers - trained to teach families how to use common types of baby carriers (wraps, ringslings, buckle carriers, mei dais) and assess which carriers would best fit their needs.
● Certified Lactation Educator - 45 hour course in which I learned the basics of lactation and how to promote ways to feed a baby with human milk.
● Full spectrum Lactation Educator - 45 hour course covering an array of topics related to lactation such as pumping, relactation, and helping queer families feed their babies.
I am a parent to a wonderful human and very excited to always share how loud and proud our family is to be queer. In my free time you can find me, running road races (only if there is a medal involved), binging reality TV shows, writing, video gaming with college friends, and singing the soundtrack of various disney movies.
Birth changes you. I am here to help give you the space to understand how to navigate that change.
