Meet Sierra Postpartum Doula Washington DC Northern Virginia

Hi, I'm Sierra. I've been working as a postpartum nurse for the last three years and have been a registered nurse for the last five years. I learned that my love for this profession has expanded beyond medical needs of families and their baby. Although I am grateful to have these skills, the time has come that I experience intimacy of postpartum and newborn care while in the homes of families.

let's be honest and face the reality of postpartum. It's not always glitter and sunshine, especially at night when your exhausted and your baby is full of energy or when your already back to work and attempting to balance the two. Although the love for your baby exceeds all the adversity of postpartum, you're still amazing for valuing your personal needs. I like to consider things such as eating, getting rest, showering, and having private bathroom time as the necessary fuel to offer your baby adequate care. As your postpartum doula, I value the needs of families but emphasize on the birthing person's needs- as their bodies are still healing, hormones are still regulating, energy levels aren’t quite up to par, and suddenly they have to live up to such a profound role. Their is so much relief to offer families as a postpartum doula and with all my acquired knowledge, skills, and empathy, I hope to serve your family in a way that helps you enjoy your journey with ease.

I believe the best support is from those without judgement and true understanding. To some degree, you almost have to live through it to really understand why “all hands on deck” is necessary when bringing forth life and nurturing it. I've been through this twice now, as I have a 7yr old son named Khai and 3yr old daughter named Halo. Both personalities are beyond this world and I still can't believe I get to experience them every day as their mother. Don’t be fooled …although I am their mother, they are my teachers. Whenever I have a moment of silence, which is usually when they’ve gone to sleep or at school, I use that as time to reflect on our day and ways I can improve in my role. I’ve even noticed my children don't just affect my growth, but they evoke change and leave an impact on those in their village too. This type of reassurance makes me happy to know I am rightfully raising two of the most amazing people in my life.

With understanding how I value my family, it is my hope that my values of parenthood are one that intertwines with your family values and the impact thereof. Outside of the laws of parenthood, during my spare time I spend much time with my family. We love to go on nature walks along a trail. Our favorite trail is at Orinoco Bay Park in Alexandria- it's so serene! We love just about any place outdoors with an open field for kids to be free and mama too! However, in my personal time I enjoy exercising, trying new recipes, biking along a trail, private karaoke moments in my car or shower, practicing healing remedies with my herbs, and caring for all of my plants. In addition to being a mom, I gained a green thumb. I can tell my plants love me the way they are just flourishing... I love all things natural and green. I hope this gives you a glimpse of who I am, the rest is better experienced in person.
