Meet Toni! Birth & Postpartum Doula

My journey with birthwork began after having my first daughter in 2017. I had the most peaceful birth in a hospital and my midwife and birth team nicknamed me “The Zen Mama,” in which I later adapted as The Yin Mama. Yin is slow, it’s the shadowy depths of our being, it is intuitive, creative, and feminine in nature. I wanted every family I met to know they too could embody this version of themselves in pregnancy, birth, and beyond. However, my second birth I experienced a peaceful labor at home, but once getting to the hospital I was immediately taken out of my safe and calm state of mind, to a chaotic environment. I know the difference between my first and second birth is based on the individuals that held the space, whether creating a sense of calm in the room for the birthing person or chaos and interruption. As a doula, I desire to be the enforcer of a safe environment for my client, through my presence and communication with everyone in the room.

I hold a grounding and calming presence during birth, allowing the birthing person the space to birth the way they desire, I understand that the needs of the birthing person change from moment to moment and I am always flexible to adapt as those needs shift. My goal is to help every one of my clients no matter where they birth, to feel empowered to have beautiful, deeply  intuitive, and healthy birth experiences.

I believe the postpartum period is just as sacred as the pregnancy and birth. I love supporting new parents during this transition so that they may focus solely on their healing, getting to know their baby, and integrating the new version of themselves that they have birthed.

In addition to birthwork, I am also a yoga teacher and community herbalist. I utilize breath work, meditation, yoga, and herbalism to support my clients. I currently reside in the Washington, DC Metro Area with my husband and 2 daughters. In my free time, you can find me working within my local community-facilitating healing circles, volunteering at local community gardens/farms, making medicine, spending time with family, or visiting my hometown in North Carolina.
